It's Anni's birthday. We dock at Visby, Sweden at 8 AM. Lo and Behold right next door is Cunard’s Queen Victoria. How ironic that we boarded Queen Victoria for Anni’s 60th birthday. Visby is a pretty medieval city, frozen in time and it is Gotland’s capital. We are only 60 miles from the mainland of Sweden. The whole island is dotted with little fishing villages and of course roam-worthy streets. But the big deal is the UNESCO world heritage site of a huge medieval wall protecting the old town. St. Mary’s Cathedral rises inside the towers. We did take a long walking tour of the ruins and the church. You just can’t get enough castles and churches when visiting northern Europe. Before returning to the ship Anni and I get an ice cream at a local shop. We get back to our stateroom with a lovely surprise birthday cards and cake from SS and our wonderful butler, Jeffrey. We were joined by our Australian friends Roger and Laura to celebrate Anni's birthday at La Dame. Afterwards stopping for an after dinner drink at the Panorama Lounge to join Rachael for an evening of music from Doris Day, Dusty Springfield, Etta James and more. Lovely day!
