We dock in Helsinki, Finland at 8 AM. Helsinki is among a gathering of about 300 islands in the Gulf of Finland. A flawlessly designed seaside city, famously livable and inspiring.
Of course, the Cathedral is the crowning glory of this city. We take an excursion highlighting Helsinki’s history. There is plenty of artwork throughout our tour and Anni was captivated by the abstract organ of the Sibelius monument. Jean Sibelius is a famous composer whose music gave Finland national identity in its quest for independence. The Swedes ruled this country off and on over the years .We also visited the incredible rock church which I must say was extraordinarily different from all the other churches and cathedrals we visited on this two-month journey. The church is built into the rock underground and the amphitheaters soaring copper bowl roof is suspended dramatically on a bed of glass windows.
Tonight's 6:45 p.m. Showtime: A Very Special Farewell Variety Extravaganza!! Dinner with several new and old friends. An incredible day!!
