We arrive at 2:30 PM at an unfortunately industrial looking port. I read that the beautiful Gothic city is a short 10 minute shuttle right away. We look forward to tomorrow’s excursion to visit this city’s roots which go back to the 10th century when the Vikings and Romans lay claim to the city. Yes, it is all that and more! Set on the banks of the Seine and less than 2 hours from Paris.
The city's roots go back to the 10th Century, when the Vikings and Romans laid claim to the city. Rouen's most famous residents were Claude Monet, William the Conqueror, Richard the Lionhearted and Joan of Arc (who literally left her heart in Rouen!) "O Rouen, art thou then to be my final abode!" was her agonized cry as the English dragged her out to be burned alive in the market square on May 30, 1431. A museum of Joan - a Roman Catholic Saint, opened in 2015. "
In the evening we were entertained by Classical Pianist, Elena, and the Voices of Silversea to a musical journey from famous classical composters and Broadway musicals and Hollywood movies. Lots of fun!
The next day we took a bus tour "Rouen Highlights" which was very beautiful with the scenery, and lots of livestock! Anni loves the sheep!
That evening we set sail back up the Seine River en route to Honfleur. We sat on our deck and watched the beautiful scenery of homes, boats and birds as we sailed along.
