At port in Honfleur was so very beautiful. We begin with an eight-hour tour of the Normandy landings. It may be gorgeous but it's also a historically important port. It was an extremely informative, beautiful and heart-wrenching tour. The somber, pensive beaches of D-Day's American's landing at Omaha beach are extraordinary. The history of how the men built a harbor in record time without the Germans knowing because our men held them back while they were building the harbor. There is about a mile of beaches with high cliffs protecting the Germans, this was an extraordinary landing feat. Of the first 1,500 boys from Virginia who landed on the beach, only 100 survived. We visited the American Cemetery; home to almost 10,000 US boys aged approximately 22 years old. We were there for a special ceremony with song, a gun salute and taps. “Never forget.”
