May 18, 2022 - Southampton, UK (Cruise Capital of Northern Europe)

Today, Sherry leaves us and goes back home where she prepares for graduations, a trip to NYC with her grandchildren, and two more cruises to Alaska! We are going to visit Stonehenge, which is a pre-historic enigma and a must-see world landmark. It has changed considerably since Ann visited it years ago. The rocks, which date back to 2000 BC, are cordened off so you cannot touch the stones. Very beautiful grounds and many different and interesting "stories" on how they came to be. We did find out that there are several other "rock" formations with their own "stories" throughout the UK.

Before going to Stonehenge, we traveled by coach to Salisbury to see the incredible Cathedral which is the subject of Ken Follette’s “Pillars of the Earth.” It is truly an extraordinary structure built in only 38 years in the early 13th century. Its steeple rises over 400 feet into the sky. One of the four original copies of the Magna Carta’s is housed in the Cathedral and we view it inside its darkened home so that light will not destroy the document that dates back to 1215. In no small way this “Charter of Rights” contributed to the principles embodied in our U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights. (Anni was mesmerized by thus beautiful baptismal font)!

We are on our own in Salisbury and find a little hotel in a small alcove where we decided to have lunch "The Red Lion Hotel" outside on their patio. Another great culinary experience!

We stopped at a small village of yesteryear, Winterbourne Stoke! Fun!

We get back to the ship just in time for our sail away to the next port.

We decide to keep the evening very casual and light as it was a full day - but wonderful!!
