We chose to take the Amazing Antrim - Giant's Causeway tour. We took a bus tour with an enthusiastic guide (Colin) through the gorgeous countryside stopping at various places for photo shoots. We were also accompanied by one of the Silversea Singers (Alex) who sang Danny Boy on the bus and entertained us during our lunch at the Royal Hotel by singing "O Sole Mio". What a voice!
We walked this very notable Causeway which is Northern Ireland's only UNESCO World Heritage site. It is a mass of almost 40,000 mostly hexagonal pillars of volcanic basalt, clustered like a giant honeycomb and extending hundreds of yards into the sea. It was created 60 million years ago when boiling lava erupted from an underground fissure that stretched from north of Ireland to the Scottish coast and crystallized as it burst into the sea. We found the Wishing Chair, the Giant's Boot, and the Giant's Organ Pipes. A beautiful, mostly sunny day, which we really needed for this tour! We then dined at the Royal Court hotel at 3:00 p.m. and back to the ship for a fun 6:30 p.m. show where one of the Silversea Singers (Luke) performed songs from The Jersey Boys, Dean Martin, Elvis Presley, Chicago, etc. and then dinner. A great day!
