Early morning, Silver Moon docks at the cruise terminal not far from the center of Reykjavik, Iceland. We had high hopes for the capital of this small country. We take a bus tour entitled "Highlights". Our tour guide was the worst we’ve had as he explains that he "won’t be talking much so we can enjoy our holiday"? There were three highlights - a one-hour Museum tour on your own, lots of 10 -15 century stuff; a one-hour open Museum tour of housing from the mid-19th century and ½ hour tour of the Pearl - essentially an elevated 360° modern structure to view the city that is mostly in fog at this point. The guide forgot to mention the planetarium on the 1st floor which we discovered on our own, without enough time to truly enjoy it. Oh well, a disappointing experience. Back to the ship and to an incredible surprise. We meet friends at the Observatory Library for cocktails. Bob gets a Facetime phone call from his sister, Mary Beth… "Guess where I am?? she asks. This seemed like a silly game as the width of the video looked surprisingly like a cruise ship. As he looked more closely, she holds up to the video a booklet that says Silver Moon. Bob and Mary Beth flew to Iceland to join us for this segment of the cruise for Bob's 70th birthday. What a wonderful birthday gift. They just got on the cruise ship this afternoon around 3 PM and of course they immediately joined us for cocktails with our friends at the Observation Library and then we moved on to have a fabulous dinner which none of us truly remember! Celebration!!
