Not exactly the best start!
Because of United Air cancellations and mechanical issues, we spent hours trying to get on a flight out of Florida. They had two seats available in the middle of the plane on a later flight and we grabbed them. Once in Newark, because of other delays, we missed our connection and spent many hours trying to get out of Newark to Lisbon. To make a long story short, we got the last flight out of Newark on Air Portugal at 11:35 p.m. (again in the middle of the plane) on May 4th and just made it to the gate on Air Portugal. Air Portugal held up the plane for us and found our bags at United Airlines and put them on our plane at Air Portugal. The gate keeper, Edgar Alvarez, actually boarded our plane to personally tell us that he was able to find our luggage and put them on our plane to relieve our anxiety!! What a relief! Air Portugal, from the security, to the gate, to the flight attendants, what an amazing experience - we will be writing a letter about their service!
Needless to say, we did not get into our hotel at the Four Seasons Ritz in Lisbon until 4 p.m. on May 5th. We were met at the hotel by our friend, Sherry, who has been in Lisbon now 3 days sightseeing and waiting for our arrival, along with arranging our transportation from the airport to the hotel, as we were obviously too late in meeting our Silversea Limo. We all made quick showers and changes so that we could attend a lovely cocktail reception and dinner with entertainment that Silversea arranged for everyone.
The next day, May 6th, Bob and I had a leisurely breakfast at the Four Seasons, had our luggage picked up, and took a quick walking tour of the city of Lisbon on our own and hopped the bus to board our ship, Silversea's Silver Moon.
Unfortunately, because of all of the delays, a day lost, Bob and I never had a chance to see much of this beautiful city!
